Jeep Jamboree- Palo Duro

April 10, 2022 by Scott Smith

I'm pretty excited about attending the Palo Duro Jeep Jamboree in Amarillo, TX! This will be my first Jeep Jamboree event. Today I registered and payed my fee so I am officially going! Earlier this year I considered trying to attend one of their events but by the time I started looking every one of them nationwide was filled.

How I Got In

I was kind of disappointed about not being able acquire a spot for even one event and that all of them filled so quickly. They did however have a signup option for cancellation fills. That meant if someone cancels, they offer the spot to people like myself that sign up on a list. You have 24 hours from the time of notification to grab an open spot before your window closes and the next name on the list is notified. I thought this was a good system not only for the Jeep Jamboree to keep their roster full but for people like myself that miss out on the initial registration.

I put myself on 6 location cancellation lists. The Palo Duro event was the one I most wanted to attend and an opening became available! This one is a 3 day event. I don't really want to call it a true 3 day event because day one is just vehicle evaluation, registration, and trail sign up. So in reality its only 2 days of wheeling. That's ok though because from my understanding its very organized, guided, and has spotters to help. They also provide meals so the entire event takes out a lot of logistics that you normally have to provide on your own.

Just Good Wheelin!

It will be nice to be able to set up camp, get up and have a breakfast that I don't have to prepare. I don't have to plan meals unless I want to eat more than is provided. I don't have to pack a load of food, cooking equipment, or cooking fuel. This can be a huge logistical feat if your camping the entire time to have to plan in advance. I also don't have to plan the trails, lead a group, worry about getting lost and losing wheeling time trying to figure out where to go. Although its a paid for event, considering the logistics the Jeep Jamboree provides I believe it will be worth the cost for a couple days of worry free wheeling.
